Fireworks Homework

Wow! Thank you to everyone who completed the fireworks pictures for homework. The children worked hard and they were very different and creative.

Please remember that homework needs to be completed by Wednesday, so we can send out the books again on Thursday.

Thank you,

The Year One Team

Homework – 9.11.16

This week, we have been concentrating on Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot story. Tomorrow (Thursday 10th), we will be sending out homework books. We would like the children to create a fireworks picture. The children can be creative as they want and they can use anything you have in the house! Please use the A4 paper provided.

Maths Homework – 8.12.16

In addition to the children learning their lines for our Christmas performance, we have set Maths homework to consolidate their learning of addition, using a method called part-part-whole.

Below is an example of a part-part-whole method:

The children need to add two parts on the bottom, to make the whole number at the top:

If you have any problems, please speak to a member of staff in Year One.

Welcome to Year 1’s Blog

We hope you had a lovely half term and it is nice to see all the children back in the classroom.

This week in Maths, we are focusing on the properties of 2D shapes such as, triangles, rectangles, squares and circles and 3D shapes such as, cuboids, cubes, cones, prisms and pyramids.

Next week, we will be describing fireworks using adjectives in Literacy. Over the weekend, we would be grateful if you could use vocabulary linked to fireworks, including what they look like, what they sound like and the smell of them.

This week and next week in Phonics, we are concentrating on the ‘oe’ sound, including ‘ow, o and oa’. Words such as: goat, coat, go, so, slow, snow, blow and boat.

Please ensure PE kits are named and are in school everyday.

Also, please make sure children have their homework books in school by Wednesday every week, so we can send the new spellings home on Thursday.

Thank you,

The Year One Team
